Staycation in Devon!!

Hi!

Last week I went to Devon, and I thought I'd share some of my recommendations for the best places to visit and what to do there. I had never been to Devon before this trip and I really enjoyed it! I'm going to post loads of photos onto my Instagram ( @musicaltraveller_) so don't forget to follow me on there for more content!

Dartmouth:

Dartmouth Harbour

This was where we stayed for the week, and we loved it! It is situated on the West side of the River Dart and this was the town with the best atmosphere in my opinion. It was filled with a variety of different style restaurants, and we ate in town most nights. Some of my favourite places for food included Kendrick's, which was a grill style restaurant, and Beth's Bistro, which we went to for Brunch. Dartmouth is also a 5 minute ferry ride away from Kingswear, which is on the other side of the River. You can either take your car across or be a foot passenger and they came about every 15 minutes. This was home to another one of my favourite restaurants, The Steam Packet, which is famous for its artisan pizzas. All of the restaurants are independent, making each dining experience special. I'd definitely recommend booking before you go as some of them were booked up at least 2 weeks in advance. There are plenty of shops and places to explore, such as the castle and coastal walk. Dartmouth is also famous for its crabbing, which is an activity we spent a lot of time doing! For us, Dartmouth was the perfect place for us to stay, as it felt very much in the centre of everything, and it meant that you could drive to other towns for the day but still have a base to come back to at night. We would definitely stay here again if we came back to Devon!

Salcombe:

The views in Salcombe!

I think that this was my favourite place we visited! This was where the clothes shop Jack Wills was first established, so they have a shop there that is definitely worth a visit. Salcombe is great if you're a fan of art, as there are lots of art shops to purchase pieces from local artists. There are quite a few restaurants and cafes which we'd have loved to try more of, if we had been there for longer. We stopped by The Ferry Inn for lunch which was great, especially in the current situation, as it had a large outdoor area with a cover, meaning you could sit outside in any weather. There were stunning views of the water and it was perfect for social distancing. For those who like the beach, there were plenty of small beaches on the outskirts of the town, perfect for a day of relaxation and swimming.

Torquay and Paignton:

Paignton Pier

These are two of the towns that make up the English Riviera and we visited both of them in one day. Paignton was a lot smaller and there wasn't as much to see/do, but there was a beach, pier and arcade to visit. We spent about an hour here, before venturing on to Torquay, which is a 15 minute drive from Paignton, give or take. There's a really great tea room called Burridge's which does the BEST afternoon tea, with sandwiches, scones and cakes. The Ferris wheel is another attraction not to be missed, as it allows you to be able to see the whole of Torquay and its amazing views!

I hope this has helped anyone who is thinking of going on a staycation to Devon! It really is a beautiful place, with lots to do for everyone. Don't forget to check out all of my social medias for more pictures and recommendations!
